10 fundamental points to make a good CV

1. Build your CV according to the position you are applying for.

You are selling yourself on a piece of paper, so you must adapt your information to reflect what the company is looking for. Research the company. Visit its website to find out the objectives or values it promotes. Try to capture the philosophy of the company and the position in your resume. Create your personalized CV and use a format that best suits the industry in which you want to work.

2. Highlight your qualities without lying.

Honesty is important, as your CV will be used to structure the interview if you are one of the selected candidates. Including false information can lead to problems during the selection process. Highlight your skills and remember that if you lie, the chances are that they will realize the deception is quite great, and your image will be permanently damaged. 

3. Decide if you want to include a target.

Experts disagree about whether or not to include a target on your resume. A recruiter may dismiss your application if he or she feels you have high expectations for the position. If you want to work, skip it. On the other hand, if you want a job that is not below your expectations, you can include it. Including a target will always depend on the type of job you are applying for, and the image you want to give as a professional.

4. Your CV should not be as long as your years of experience.

If you have a lot of experience and are proud of your career, you may be tempted to tell about it, but you should only include information relevant to the position. 6. Use bullet points to highlight roles, responsibilities or achievements.

Under each position, specify the roles or accomplishments with no more than four or five bullets. Do not use whole sentences, just write what is necessary. This will help the recruiter get an idea of the roles and tasks you have performed in your previous work experiences.

7. Include academic information briefly.

Include academic information relevant to the position: name of the school, title and year of graduation. Experienced workers should include education at the end of their résumé. It is your obligation to know to what extent you should emphasize more the aspects related to your work experience, or your training. If you are a person with concerns, it may be reflected in this section.

8. Do not include your hobbies.

Recruiters only care about what you can do for the company, so if you can't connect your hobbies with the job you want to get, you better not include them in your CV. If you think your hobbies might be useful for the job, you can include them at the end. 

9. It is not necessary to mention references.

If your future employer wants to talk to your former bosses he will let you know so that you can provide him with the contact. Don't give them this information unless they ask for it, that way you can tell your former boss and update him or her.

 

Don't forget to talk to your old boss and explain why they are calling and what you think would be a good way for him to explain your skills and competencies to the company that is interested in you. 

10. Use a chronological CV.

It's a way to keep order. Always put the last thing you did on top. If the work or studies you are most proud of are not the latest, use the CV design and layout to highlight them, but never change the chronology.

The functional resume consists of arranging the resume by thematic blocks, it is recommended when the experience is very dispersed or when there are large spaces of time in which you have not worked.
